Have you ever gone to book family photos but then all you can think about is how your kids might not listen and then you’ll be irritated at them for not listening and you’ll have to pretend you’re not and that you’re a happy family and it all just sounds . . . exhausting?

Oh man have I been there. But as your Vancouver WA Family Photographer, your session with me will be less “everyone stand still and smile” and more “let’s hang out and see what unfolds.” I’ll give you enough direction to keep things moving, then step back and let your family do its thing—walking, playing, snuggling, chasing, laughing, and just being together. I’m not here to stage perfect moments—I’m here to notice the ones that are already happening. The way your kids reach for you without thinking, how they have to tell you everything the second it happens. The split-second glances, the in-between laughter, the tiny interactions that might otherwise go unseen. That’s where the good stuff lives.

How it Works

Before the Session

Once you submit your session fee to hold your date, you get access to my Welcome Packet which includes FAQs, examples of color combos for outfits, recommended places to shop, and my locations. We decide on a location together, or I can choose based on what you’re looking for. I like to choose a location where your family feels most like you—while I mostly shoot outside on location, I absolutely LOVE the magic of being in your home where you’re most comfortable. Regardless of where we go, I’ll help you choose a spot with beautiful light and guide you on timing.

A week before the session I’ll reach out with final details on time and where we’re meeting as well as a WARDROBE CONSULTATION. Yep, I even help with outfits so you can come to the session feeling confident.

During the Session

At your Vancouver WA family photography session we take things as they come, we go with the flow, and we have tons of fun together! I have no problem pivoting when a kiddo needs a break, and I’ve got tons of prompts and games up my sleeve to keep you naturally interacting and playing together. We will do a couple of more formal everyone smiling and looking at the camera shots, but besides that we don’t do a lot of sitting still. I like to change it up and do different prompts and games, so even if we’re in one spot for a minute there’s enough variety to keep things moving. Movement truly brings photos to life so don’t worry about wiggly kids!

After the Session

About a week after our session you’ll get full access to your gallery so that you can keep those memories for years to come. There’s no picking and choosing your favorites-you get to keep them all so you can return to them for years to come! Full sessions also come with a $75 print credit which is basically just a built-in excuse to finally get photos framed instead of saying “I’ll do it later” for a year. (Hey, no judgement—I’ve been there!)

Frequently Asked Questions

The best time for Vancouver WA family photos is about an hour to an hour and a half before sunset. When you book I’ll give an estimate time if your session is more than a week out, and then a definite time about a week before our session date.
Yes! I always start our session off with a formal posed image for Christmas cards and grandma, and then we’ll move on to the more fun stuff. Expect 1-3 formal posed images in your gallery.
My style of photography is more authentic. We'll do a couple of formal shots, but most of them will be more interactive. Don't worry about whether or not your kids are looking at the camera, most of the time I'll want to capture connection. I'll be sure to tell your kids when I want them to look at me, and I will direct you through the whole session! We play lots of games, take lots of breaks if kiddos need them, and just take things as they come. Want even more info? Check out this blog post.
NO! For me, the whole point of getting family photos done is to capture a little slice of your life as it is right now. Unless your kiddos are naturally perfectly behaved (HA!) then that’s just not normal life. I want to see your kid acting like they normally do around you-so if they take a prompt and turn it into something different? Perfect! Anything they do naturally I am stoked about, so please don’t feel like they need to be following my directions perfectly.
