My Top 10 Photo Locations in Portland I Can't Wait to Try!

Holy plethora of beauty that is the PNW! When doing research into locations for family photo sessions I was overwhelmed by the amount of places I found that looked absolutely gorgeous. I had a hard time, but I narrowed it down to my top ten that I can’t wait to make magic at. Will I have a hard time deciding which place to go to first? Yes, yes I will.

  1. Government Cove Peninsula

This is perfect for families because it doesn’t require a lot of hiking, but still provides some amazing views! Photos of this area have me drooling, and I can’t wait to get creative here.

2. Peninsula Park

This park is free to the public and has a rose garden! I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen a free to the public rose garden before, so this one got me excited! A gorgeous place with lots of flowers and no extra fees? Yes please.

3. Viento State Park

A dark rocky beach, smooth glassy water, with a gorgeous mountain backdrop. I know this is an area that families will love because I know my kids will LOVE this area-they will be throwing rocks in that river like crazy, ha ha.

4. Moulton Falls

This one is so fun! You can do some photos down at the base with the bridge in the background, or you can hike up to the bridge and do some photos on the bridge. Since this does involve a hike it might be better for families with older kids, or kids that are used to hiking.

5. Hoyt Arboretum

There’s lots of variety here! It’s a mix of open fields with trees in the back and forested areas. There are also overlooks that would be super cute to take photos on as well. Gah, can’t believe how beautiful this looks.

6. Tom Mccall Preserve

I saw photos of this location and literally stopped dead in my tracks for a full 10 seconds. I was wondering if there was a spot that had wildflowers, and I’m so happy I saw this spot in my researching. Figuring out when these flowers bloom is going to be my top priority when I get to Portland.

7. Champoeg State Park

This area is so pretty! It’s a big park with lots of areas to go even if there are a lot of people there-so that’s nice to be able to avoid busier areas if needed. This location is one I would be absolutely ecstatic to find in New Mexico-a green field with taller grasses and gorgeous trees and lighting. Of course, it’s not as rare in Portland, but I’m still excited to have something similar to my favorite spots that I won’t be able to use anymore.

8. Cooper Mountain

This is another area with both fields and a forested area-so it’s the best of both worlds! You better bet I’m going to be walking these paths with my kids to find the best areas with the best light.

9. Gabriel Park

How freaking cute are those flowering bushes?! This looks to be a really cute park with lots of green grassy fields, paved walking baths, and fun bridges to add something a bit different.
