My Favorite Places to Shop for Family Photos
Getting clothes together for a whole family can be hard! I only have three kids and I sometimes struggle, so you bigger families really have your work cut out for you! I thought I would try and make it a little easier getting all those outfits together by sharing my favorite places to shop for the kids and myself. Also, you know when you’re looking for something to watch and there are so many options that you just keep scrolling and scrolling and scrolling? Yeah, I didn’t want that to happen here. So instead of listing every possible place my clients or I have shopped for clothes, I narrowed it down to my top 3 for each category.
1. For moms
I will ALWAYS recommend a dress for mom, so most of the places I’ll list are listed with dresses in mind, but most places also sell cute tops as well if you’re not a dress person. My favorites are:
-Ivy City Co: If you haven’t heard of them, go check them out right now. Their dresses are sooo cute and they have so many different styles. They can be a bit on the pricier end depending on what you get, but they have awesome sales. They have a lot of styles that are flattering on lots of different body types, and the quality is amazing.
-Roolee: Roolee has such a fun style! I have gotten multiple dresses from them, as well as shoes and tops. They really do a good job with curating current styles and giving you ideas on new ways to wear pieces.
-Bohme: I love Bohme. I’ve gotten mostly dresses and rompers from them and have had a great experience. They have some dresses that aren’t as expensive so it’s a good option if you’re on more of a budget.
My dress here is from Bohme, husband and oldest son’s shirts are thrifted, other two kids’ shirts are from Ross
2. For Kids
For kids I like to keep it simple because who knows if they’ll wear the outfit again, and who knows how long it’ll fit them for. So for me, cute but inexpensive is the name of the game. So these are basic options, but it’s seriously what I use the most (plus an extra option for little girls that I’ve heard good things about since I have no experience with girls):
-H&M: I mean, you aren’t surprised right? I feel like especially for boys, they have really good options. While I feel like girls sometimes have too many options, boys don’t have enough. H&M does a good job of providing more variety and options but at an affordable price.
-Target: If you need to get a plain colored shirt, colored shorts, or something more basic Target is a great option. I have gotten a $5 tshirt from them multiple times when I changed my mind last minute about a pattern. Their accessories are great too.
-Mila & Rose: This is a great option for little girl dresses that have some movement to them-they literally call them “twirly dresses” so you know they’re good to twirl in. I haven’t personally shopped here, but I have clients who have and I hear great things from them.
3. For Dads
Dads have got it pretty easy-my go to outfit for my husband when we do photos is either a button down shirt or a sweater with khaki jeans, or a lightly patterned shirt with colored shorts. He usually has plenty of options when it comes to pants and shorts, so I’m usually just looking for a shirt. We’ve had great success at:
-H&M: Their button up shirts have some fun patterns on them that make them the perfect in-between of nice, but not too dressy.
-Amazon: Yep, I said it! We have turned to Amazon more and more recently to find what we need. It’s a little bit like thrift store shopping-you have to wade through all the bad to get to the good-but they have great options as well.
-Express: Oooh, I love men’s shirts from express. They have a lot of styles and patterns you usually don’t see anywhere else, so they’re definitely worth a look.
Husband’s sweater is from Amazon, oldest son’s sweater is from H&M, my dress is from Bohme!
*Bonus: Thrift Stores
Ok, don’t judge me here but I LOVE to shop at thrift stores. I have found some AWESOME deals at thrift stores that include: a brand new pair of American Eagle jeggings in my EXACT size, tons of clothes from H&M and The Children’s Place for my boys, and a Burberry baby boy cardigan for $4!!! You definitely have to sift through a lot of crap sometimes, but especially when I’m looking for something specific that might only get worn once or twice I always check at a thrift store first. You never know right? Here in Vancouver I’ve had some good luck with Denim and Frills-I found some nice shirts and some like-new shoes for $7 which is a win to me.
Both my husband’s and oldest son’s shirts here were thrifted!
There you have it! My top places that I use to shop for family photo outfits. Like I said, I didn’t want to overwhelm you with too many options, but just know that all clients who book with me get access to my Welcome Packet which has a full list of recommendations. Happy shopping!
